Elizabeth and Tom cerebrated their wedding day with close friends and family at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Connecting with this couple was particularly easy. Perhaps because we had similar styles or perhaps because our daughters are a similar age (and we both incorporated flowers into their names).
They were married on a very beautiful brisk autumn evening. To set the evening tone, their six bridesmaids wore wine colored dresses. We used blush “Queen Elizabeth” roses, wine roses, cream Asiatic lilies, burgundy mums, champagne stock and greens including eucalyptus in the bouquets. The bridesmaid’s bouquets included less wine colored flowers so help them contrast against the dresses. The sweet flower girl, Lily, carried a small posy bouquet as well.
Elizabeth and Tom’s outdoor ceremony on the gorgeous front steps of the institute needed few decorations other than a full green garland to cover the black railing in the center of the steps. It was the perfect touch to soften the space. The table’s centerpieces incorporated lanterns and fairy lights with greens and blooms around them. The head table included greens with blooms as well as the wedding parties bouquets in cylinder vases.
During the planning process, the couple’s budget and plans changed slightly due to unforeseen circumstances. This is a very common situation in preparing for a wedding as life tends to go on around us despite our plans! So, we sat down again and brainstormed how to achieve a similar look and feel within the new budget. I enjoyed the challenge of bringing their vision to life with the changes, it is one of my favorite parts of floral design to be creative and explore alternatives.
